Everyday Vintage: Calendars and Corningware

My morning has been spent with some of my favorite cookbooks for a long overdue menu-planning session...complete with some rick dark chocolate mocha in my everyday Corning coffee cup (in the Pyrex Butterfly Gold pattern...) I searched through some of my favorite cookbooks for some yummy treats and cool weather tummy fillers. I have been inspired by the cool Elycia and her Veg out with Elycia project to share a couple of short thoughts on making the transition...

My short and sweet rules for going veg (for a short time or with the goal of long term):
  • Go slow. While I know many that categorize eating animal products as severely unethical but making this change can be tough both mentally and socially and your body will need to adjust to a plant-based diet. Don't categorize food as "good" or "bad", educate yourself with the issues around what you eat, and make changes and choices based on your belief system.
  • Keep it simple. While some of my favorite food blogs are vegan, you don't have to cook like a chef or have a gourmet health food store nearby. You can cook healthy, good tasting food without complicated methods or difficult-to-find ingredients.
P.S. Silk Dark Chocolate Almond Milk is my new favorite...Warm it up in your favorite coffee mug and add an instant coffee packet or a shot of espresso...yum! Head over to Elycia's blog to read some great personal stories and some yummy recipes!

Friday Favorites: Pinterest Edition

If you are anything like me, you discover so many amazing things while browsing through blogs, websites, flickr and Facebook links. My bookmarked favorites were a little out of control- everything from sewing tutorials, inspirational articles, and kiddie crafts to do with my son. Then, I discovered Pinterest... It is like a web-based inspiration board that you can categorize into things that you care about. And, if you chose, you can swap and share with others. Here is a little round-up of my favorite discoveries on Pinterest this week:

Everyday Vintage: Pyrex and Popcorn

Besides "my grandmother had a bowl like that," the most most common thing I hear when people come to my house is wonderment that I actually use the items I collect. While my collections do make for great shelf displays and conversation pieces, I don't want them to be mere place keepers. As I start this blog, one of my aims is to share inspiration on how to incorporate the things we love into real life and I have decided to make my first "series" to be one sharing how I {and, in the future, other inspirational people around the big ole' web!} use the things in my life that have history, meaning and significance to brighten up my day to day life. I hope you'll enjoy a little Everyday Vintage...

Today was dark, wet and had the first chill of the season...perfect for cuddling on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn in one of my favorite large Pyrex bowls: Daisy!

Do you use the things you collect everyday? How do you feel about using something that may be special or one of a kind on a routine basis? I would love to hear from you!
